New insights: A detailed comparison of Logto and Auth0

What is Auth0?

Auth0, established in 2013, is a cloud-based platform that empowers developers with tools and services to easily incorporate authentication and identity management functionalities into their applications. It holds a prominent position as the industry leader in customer identity access management.

What is Logto?

Logto tackles the same problem as Auth0 but takes a simpler, more intuitive, lightweight, with an open-source approach.

With these come to play, it has lots of advantages:

  • It is more suitable for developers from any size of companies.
  • It’s open-source, so there is no vender lock-in.
  • Our foundational product and architecture allow us to cover and extend the entire range of authorization, authentication, and user management. We can easily achieve feature parity with Auth0 while also keeping our product simple and flexible to use.
  • It comes with tons of connectors, SDK and trendy tutorials

We've worked hard to achieve feature parity with Auth0, unleashing the feature needs of developers, while also incorporating our unique elements and best practices:

  • Multi-tenant app best practice
    • Improve your multi-tenant access control efficiency as well adhere to the multi-tenant software infra’s philosophy
  • More flexible customization on the sign-in experience in a no-code format
    • Flexibly combine and group auth meds
    • Fully customizable css
  • Efficient product and service support
    • Our community has daily on-call to answer your question
    • Email support ticket with 48-Hour response guarantee

Auth0 vs Logto

How are they similar?

  1. We adhere to OIDC-based standard protocols, ensuring compatibility and security. We haven't seen many new auth products follow these standard protocols. Open standards serve the auth system well in the long run. Not following standard protocols in your auth system can be a deal-breaker when partnering with other businesses or during future integrations.

  2. Our product supports a multi-app structure within a single user system, which greatly simplifies the following scenarios:

    a. Use Logto as an IdP (Identity Provider) for third party services.

    b. Support for businesses with multiple apps.

    c. A unified identity system that consolidates multiple apps, including first party and third party.

  3. Both services are robust in authentication and authorization capabilities.

  4. Comprehensive features and scenario support:

    a. We cover all types of authentication methods, UI flows, SSO (Single Sign-On), MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication), and Multi-tenancy solutions.

    b. We provide a full range of integrations, from UI to SDK, and APIs, ensuring flexibility and scalability to meet your specific needs and seamlessly integrate into your services.

    c. SaaS, multi-app, consumer apps, AI apps, and enterprise-ready solutions are all within our scope.

How Logto differs from Auth0

Larger target audiences

We specifically cater to users who may be overlooked by Auth0, including developers and startups in need of digital solutions. This is far more than what Auth0 targeted because of the less flexible approach and high pricing.

Besides the cloud version, we at the same time maintain a reputable, community driven open-source version. If you prefer self-hosted, go with the open-source version.

Auth0: High cost upfront (Prepaid); Logto: Flat rate with flexible add-on. Auth0’s pricing model is based on base price and MAU usage. Our product offers unlimited MAU and flexible add-on for the advanced features. You only pay for the feature usage, and your product MAU is not a concern anymore. Our strength lies in significantly simplifying the integration process. Users who have switched to our service find it much easier than Auth0 and very newbie-friendly. This includes:

No-code option

  1. Protect your app authentication with 2 clicks. (Stay tuned, this is our secret feature to be launched in Feb 2024)

Low-code option

  1. Logto cloud to configure most of the features
  2. Full package of SDK, frameworks and demos
